What is Managed Services

Many businesses operate under the "break-fix" model. When a piece of equipment breaks, work slows to a crawl or stops while everyone waits for a repair techincian to arrive. The technician arrives and works on the computer for a few hours. Finally the computer is repaired and eveyone can return to work.

Although the computer is repaired, there are three problems with this model.
  1. 1. Labor costs for unscheduled repairs such as this one, are costly
  2. 2. The cost of the repair is compounded by the loss of productivity the business suffers when employees sit around unable to work
  3. 3. This model is REACTIVE and over time creates more problems than it solves

The average repair bill for a server is around $350. Add to that the cost of lost productivity and it can easily soar into the thousands. This causes management to focus on reducing costs by waiting until equipment breaks before calling a repair technician.

However this REACTIVE APPROACH causes even more expensive repairs, downtime and productivity loss and your IT staff to become overrun with requests. Productivity loss is costly. If a $40/hr employee loses just 1 hour of productivity per day, over the course of a year that will accumulate to a $10,000 loss for the business!

There is a better way. Managed Services

At WAN-Genuity, we use a PROACTIVE APPROACH known as Managed Services, where we monitor the performance of the components in your computers and network, 24/7. As soon as a component operates outside of expected norms, it notifies our Tech Force technicians, who make corrective changes BEFORE the equipment fails. We focus on keeping the equipment operating smoothly which eliminates downtime and loss of productivity.

Best of all, we can often provide unlimited support for that server for a low, monthly fee that is LESS than the cost of one repair job. The cost is fixed and can easily be justified and budgeted.

Both approaches are similar to the ones you have available to you when maintaining a car. you can be proactive and change the oil every 10,000 miles or be reactive and pay a mechanic a few times per year to replace the engine after it seizes up because of a lack of oil. Obviously the proactive approach is superior. It focuses on keeping the car in good working order as opposed to towing it to a mechanic to have the engine replaced.

Just as a car has a "Check Engine" warning light, a computer records all errors and anomolies it encounters. But just as it takes a trained mechanic to interpret the car's error code and take the correct action, it takes a trained technician to interpret the computer's error codes and make the right corrective changes to head off a system failure. This experience is what makes our Tech Force technicians superior to the average IT worker.
